SUPPORT OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS DEFENDERS, CRD,
TO THE PRESS COUNCIL IN BIH IN 2010

CRD organization, for the fifth year in sequence, enables normal functioning of the Press Council in BiH
Grant amounting 31.000 Euro for activities of the Press Council in period July – December 2010


Civil Rights Defenders, CRD, for the fifth year in sequence, is supporting activities of the Press Council in BiH via the project “Self-regulation of media as basis of human freedoms and democracy”. Donation amounting 31.000 Euro was planned, at the first place, for the operational costs of the Press Council in BiH and it will enable normal functioning of this self-regulatory body. Baring in mind that the Press Council in BiH is non-government and non-profit organization, without permanent sources of financing, this sort of support of the CRD organization is of huge importance for preservation and development of the self-regulatory body, the Press Council in BiH.

This grant will enable the Press Council in BiH to continue with project activities, in accordance with development strategy of this body. Apart from the basic activity of the Press Council in BiH, which is analyzing of citizens' complaints on print media reporting, the Council will have series of seminars, workshops and info-meetings with citizens, non-governmental sector, politicians, judges, prosecutors, journalists and other professional groups, with aim to introduce them with role and mission of the Press Council in BiH, and understating of media role in democratic society. Important activity of the Press Council in BiH is educational program for students of journalism in BiH, which is being realized for the second year now, via the School of media ethics for students of journalism from BiH. The Council will, also, organize the educational seminars for law students, with aim to introduce future lawyers and judges with media legislation and ethics in media, and also seminars for high schools teachers and students on media literacy.

It was also planned to have regular sessions of the Press Council in BiH Complaints Commission, sessions of the Board of Directors and Assembly of the PC in BiH. Promotional campaign of the Press Council in BiH for this year will include radio jingles broadcasted via radio stations in BiH, and short promotional videos for cinemas, made for the wide audience. Presentation of work and activities of the Press Council in BiH at the international level will, as in pervious years, be achieved through participation of the Press Council in BiH at the Annual Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe Assembly, AIPCE, taking place in Amsterdam by the end of year 2010. Also, in 2010 it was planned to have conference with representatives of news agencies and on-line media.
