German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina financially supports activities of the Press Council in B&H for year 2009, in amount of 50.611 EUR

The Agreement on Financial Support of the German Embassy in B&H to the Press Council in B&H for year 2009 was signed today, 4th of June 2009 in amount of 50.611,00 EURO

The Agreement was signed by H.E. Joachim Schmidt, German Ambassador in B&H

On basis of good co-operation and achieved results in realization of projects from year 2008, German Embassy in B&H has decided to financially support activities of the Press Council in B&H in year 2009, with amount of 50.611 EURO.

Supported project is continuation of well developed educational projects and achieved results of the activities that the German Embassy financed last year. These projects relate to strengthening of media self-regulation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, continuation of education for students of journalism from four Faculties in B&H and education of judges from the first instance courts in B&H who deal with the defamation lawsuits.

Thus, as of June till December 2009, there will be realized workshops for judges and students of law from B&H regarding the understanding of freedom of media within the Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, with purpose of better practical application of the Defamation Laws in our county. Also, the Winter School of Ethics for students of journalism from four faculties in B&H – Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Banja Luka, as well as open meetings with citizens on achieving their right to accurate and timely information, via complaints procedure of the Press Council.

The Press Council is unique self-regulatory body for print media in B&H and it is a member of the Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe, AIPCE. It was established in 2000 as first self-regulatory body in the Region and it is part of the print industry in B&H, gathering in its membership print media owners, journalists and citizens, readers of the press.
